Pre & Post Natal Care

As well as Chiropractic care we offer other pre and post natal therapies, such as massage and yoga to help make your journey to motherhood as relaxing and comfortable as possible.

CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Women during pregnancy regularly seek chiropractic care. Common reasons for pregnant mums-to-be visit include:

  • Lower back pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pubic pain
  • Neck pain
  • Leg pain
  • Chest pain

Our chiropractors utilise gentle and specific techniques to help alleviate pain and discomfort during pregnancy. We aim to release tension and help balance the pelvis and spine allowing the best environment for the baby during development and delivery.

Post-natal

After birth ligaments begin tighten as hormone levels start to return to normal, which increases the chances of misalignments of the spine and pelvis. Gentle adjustments and exercises are used to return the spine and pelvis back to normal working function.

Studies have shown that the addition of chiropractic care to standard obstetric care gives significant benefits regarding low back and pelvic girdle pain [1].

PREGNANCY MASSAGE

During pregnancy the body and mind undergo enormous changes. This may result in some physical complaints, i.e. backache, swollen ankles and other aches and pains as well as emotional stress in dealing with these changes. A pregnancy massage is a full body treatment which is specifically tailored to the needs of the pregnant woman and can help to ease some of the aches and pains whilst being deeply relaxing and nourishing.

Pregnancy massage is recommended after 12 weeks of pregnancy up until birth.

POST-NATAL MASSAGE

Post-natal massage is designed to help the new Mum's body recover from childbirth and to deal with all the new aches and pains caused by breastfeeding, carrying baby and equipment etc. The massage will be tailored to everyone's specific needs and is usually a full-body treatment. In these first few weeks and months when all the focus is on the new baby it is also a chance for Mum to be kind to herself and receive a nourishing and relaxing treatment.

It is suitable from 1 week after birth (4 weeks after a Caesarian section, depending on how well the scar is healing).

Pregnancy and Post-Natal massages are available on Monday and Thursday morning and bi-weekly on Tuesdays with Marion and are £55 for 60 minutes

Pregnant Students

Unless you already have a regular and consistent practice with one of our teachers and have been cleared by your doctor to keep practicing we recommend not attending classes until 12 weeks for Pregnancy Yoga and 14 weeks for a general-level Yoga or Pilates class. This is due to the higher risk of miscarriage in the first Trimester. Please know that the teacher is within their rights to refuse you entry to class on grounds of safety.

POST NATAL YOGA

This postnatal class provides a space for mums to melt away stress, tension and fatigue. We’ll use postures and breathing techniques to create stability, strengthen and realign the pelvis and abdominal muscles and alleviate backache and shoulder strain. With a focus on relaxation and rest to aid postnatal recovery, this is a time to nurture yourself and enjoy time with your baby. You’ll leave the mat with an enhanced sense of general well-being; physically, emotionally and energetically.

WITH BABY, OR WITHOUT! We understand sometimes it's tricky to find childcare, so you are welcome to bring your little one along if you need for this class tailored specifically to new mums.

YOGA CLUB

The general learning aims through yoga are to help children to recognise and practice the feeling of calmness and peacefulness and increase their body awareness, while supporting their natural physical development. Emotionally, yoga helps children to be balanced, accepting and resilient and at the same time it encourages playfulness through physicality.

Age groups:

4-6yrs:
This age group will learn basic Yoga poses with an emphasis on playfulness and joy of movement. They will improve their balance and coordination and they will learn about the benefits of being able to relax and stay still.

7-9yrs:
In this age group we can add to the repertoire of poses with some basic breathing exercises, as their lungs are fully developed by this age. This class begins to resemble an adult class. We continue with the development of building muscle memory, coordination and balance.

10-12yrs:
This class starts to look more like an adult class, we can now do more poses with a focus on correct alignment, learning to coordinate breath with movement and attempting a variety of more challenging postures. There will also be opportunity to think about how they can use their yoga practice in their daily lives.
