Massage therapy actually benefits your health. Using a range of techniques, massage can break down the build-up of tension; ease pain, increase circulation and promote relaxation. At The Honor Oak Wellness Rooms, we offer Sports Massage, Remedial and Deep tissue massage, Pregnancy Massage, and more relaxing styles such as Swedish and Indian Head Massage.
Massage treatments are suitable for a range of physical complaints including postural muscle tension, tension headaches, and neck and shoulder pain or just for an enhanced sense of well-being. Massage is also beneficial in the treatment of stress, anxiety and sleeping problems. All massage treatments at the clinic are tailored to the patient after a brief consultation.
Sports massage can remove the general aches and pains that accumulate through training before they become more serious problems that lead to injuries. Equally it can help people with postural problems caused by working at a desk or performing repetitive tasks. It can be painful, but clients often report feeling improved joint mobility and muscle function following a treatment.
If you play sports, we recommend regular sports massage to help reduce the risk of injury, improve recovery from training and help flush the toxins out of your body quicker.
remedial & deep tissue massage
Remedial Massage is a treatment that works on the muscles for a specific therapeutic effect, rather than a general therapeutic effect. This type of massage is completely tailored to your goals such as deep shoulder knots and pain relief, so this will be discussed extensively with your therapist at the time. It uses relevant deep tissue techniques and movements to help relieve pain and the build-up of tension, returning the body to normal health from injuries or acute and chronic conditions.
Swedish massage is a popular therapeutic therapy that works on the muscles to help relax the body. Swedish massage uses 5 types of strokes and movements that will help reduce tension, circulation, stress levels and ease out the knots in your shoulders and body. This massage is a great way to ease out daily tensions and stress.
During pregnancy, the body and mind undergo enormous changes. This may result in some physical complaints, i.e. back-ache, swollen ankles and other aches and pains as well as emotional stress in dealing with these changes. A pregnancy massage is a full body treatment which is specifically tailored to the needs of the pregnant woman and can help to ease some of the aches and pains whilst being deeply relaxing and nourishing. A pregnancy massage is recommended after 12 weeks of pregnancy up until birth.
Post-natal massage is designed to help the new Mum's body recover from childbirth and to deal with all the new aches and pains caused by breastfeeding, carrying baby and equipment etc. The massage will be tailored to everyone's specific needs and is usually a full-body treatment. In these first few weeks and months when all the focus is on the new baby it is also a chance for Mum to be kind to herself and receive a nourishing and relaxing treatment. It is suitable from 1 week after birth (4 weeks after a Caesarian section, depending on how well the scar is healing).
Indian Head Massage
This is a Western adaptation of the ancient Indian tradition of head massage. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (Vodder Method)
This is a very gentle, soft touch and repetitive form of massage which helps to remove toxins, waste products and excess fluids from the body tissues through the lymphatic system. MLD is used primarily for detox, swollen ankles during pregnancy, pre- and post- cosmetic surgery, after breast cancer surgery as well as to alleviate many chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, acne, eczema, migraines or to simply experience an improved sense of well-being.
A deeply relaxing and restorative gentle massage which works by bringing the organs within the abdominal area back into alignment, releasing pressure and strengthening the surrounding muscles and ligaments. Known to help with lower back pain, stress, anxiety, migraines, depression, irregular periods and IBS type symptoms.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
A specialised physical therapy (without the use of oils) which gently affects and releases fascial restrictions and tension within the body. The therapist takes into account not only what they notice during a postural assessment but also what they feel. The treatment is very gentle but the experienced therapist can actually feel the fascial restrictions, where they go to and subsequently feel the release of those restrictions during the session.
