The Mindful Movement Project

The Mindful Movement Project

Let us introduce you to The Mindful Movement Project; a monthly charity yoga class to raise awareness of mental health and raise funds for its treatment and research.

Classes take place at 6pm on the first Sunday of each month at The Honor Oak Wellness Rooms and feature guest teachers who will guide you through a nourishing 75 minute Flow & Restore yoga class to help you unwind and reset for the week ahead. All proceeds will go to local charities working with those suffering from mental health conditions. This is karma yoga in action.

Get Your Head Out Of Your Asana

Get Your Head Out Of Your Asana

with Candice Habershon

Is your yoga practice tying you up in knots? Do you ever find yourself wishing your yoga teacher would slow down so you can work out if you’re doing the poses properly? Or, do you get frustrated when teachers say, “If side crow is in your practice, go ahead and do one now.” But what if side crow isn’t in your practice but you’d like it to be? Well then this workshop is for you.

Over two hours we will look at a handful of poses taught frequently like Chaturanga Dandasona and upward facing dog but will do drills to start with to build up the flexibility and strength needed to do these poses properly and then we will break them down step by step. Then we will move on to some strength poses like crow, tripod headstand and side crow using the same method of drills followed by a step-by-step break down.  Prepare to laugh, fall on your face and not take life too seriously.

At the end, we will slow everything right down and do a delicious 15-minute yoga nidra to get our heads back out of our asanas, and leave feeling lighter but stronger.

Dance with Yoga

Dance with Yoga

In this workshop, Korina seeks to inspire a more creative practice using a cross disciplinary approach, applying and combining her experience as a professional contemporary dancer to bring a greater awareness of the body in Yoga. Research has shown that by engaging in a variety of movement disciplines we enhance our proprioception and kinaesthesia and create new pathways in our brain. Using somatic and performance techniques, we will do exercises to improve our coordination and challenge body and mind with different ways of moving. There will be an equal focus on our quality of movement and moving with grace. To achieve this, we will have a set Yoga sequence which we will approach from the perspective of a dancer; detailing technique, practicing, clarifying and repeating. By deconstructing these sequences, we will be able to examine mechanics in greater detail and develop a more intrinsic understanding of fluidity in transitions; something that we do not get the chance to do in regular classes. This workshop aims to provide you with a fresh approach to your Yoga practice and support greater integration of mind and body.

Go with the Flow: Tricky Transitions

Go with the Flow: Tricky Transitions

with Lynne Fugard

This workshop will introduce and build upon the principles of vinyasa flow yoga:  creatively synchronising fluid physical movement with a deep, smooth and calming breath. Moving beyond a foundation in the basic grammar of yoga poses, an advanced flow practice emphasises the physical and energetic experience of moving and breathing in-between, demonstrating that there is no need for tension, strain or rigidity in order to float and fly across the mat towards more challenging poses.
